Yates tackle discusses his commitment

As the 2010 recruiting class quickly filled up, the lack of offensive tackles stood out to most, including the coaching staff. After last weekend's big win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater Houston bagged both of their top tackle targets on Sunday as the windfall from the big win began to roll in. Chris Hill from Yates High School was the first Saturday morning, making the call after coming to the decision.

"Well, I'm from Houston and it's home," said the 6-foot-5, 270 pound tackle. "My old head coach works over there now too (running backs coach Clarence McKinney). It really feels like family to me over there so it was a comfortable spot for me there."

Hill also admitted to following Houston's big win against Oklahoma State recently.

"Yea, that was a great game," he said. "After that win and the way they have been playing it just speaks for itself. It was one of the things that finally pushed me to make my decision."

Hill and his Yates teammates picked up a big win over Houston Wheatley 38-2 Saturday night moving their record to 3-1 in the young season.

"Seeing that last year we had a lot of losses, it just feels good to come out here and play hard so we can have a good chance of going to state," said Hill. "They were pretty predictable tonight on offense, they run a lot of tosses so we were already prepared for the game."

Hill had a fumble recovery while playing on the defensive side of the ball for Yates and showed his frustration at not being able to return it.

"I have really been wanting a touchdown," he said. "I've been wanting to get one before I leave high school."

Now that his college decision is out of the way, Hill plans to stay busy and get the most out of his senior year.

"After football I usually switch right over to basketball," he said. "It helps me stay in shape. As soon as that is over, it is usually right back to football training again so it will pretty much just stay the same for me."

Hill and his teammates host Houston Westbury next Saturday at 6:00 at Butler Stadium.
